The questioner : He says that he read in a book, which is a Christian book, and it is written in it that Jesus is the son of Allah the Exalted, and I know that this is an error and disbelief in Allah. Does this reading bring any sin upon me? Guide us, may Allah reward you with good, even though the book contains several errors and disbelief in Allah?

The Shaykh : You did not specify whether this book you read for the Christian is the Gospel or something else. In any case, the previous books, such as the Torah and the Gospel, are read in three ways. One is to read them to take guidance from them and benefit from them. This is not permissible, because the Qur'an and the Sunnah are sufficient for them.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The second is to read them to know what truth is in them, so that he obligates their followers to adhere to it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And to clarify their error in contradicting what Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) brought. This is not only permissible, but it is required, either as an individual obligation or as a recommended practice.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The third is to read them merely for the sake of reading, to know what they have, without intending to take guidance from them or follow them instead of the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and without intending to refute the falsehood of their followers. In this case, it is better not to do so, because there is a fear that he will be influenced by them and make them a source of his guidance and direction.

The questioner : Yes.

The questioner : From Muhammad Mu'ti al-Isa in Riyadh, he sent us this message saying.
