What is the ruling on taking the Noble Mushaf with the left hand?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Most of the worshippers in the mosques, when they want to recite the Qur'an, take the Mushaf with their left hand. I have seen one of the sheikhs do this repeatedly. Is there no harm in that?
The Shaykh : By Allah, I see that part of honoring the Mushaf is to take it with your right hand and to put it back in its place with your right hand. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and because he commanded us to take with our right hands and to give with our right hands. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) said: the left hand is for filth, and the right hand is for everything else. So the one who wants to take something foul or impure does so with the left hand.
As for the Mushaf, there is no doubt that part of honoring it is to take it, return it, and give it with the right hand. Yes, and if you, may Allah bless you, see someone doing this, you say to him: "My brother, if you wanted to give a man a need from..., or take a need from him, which hand would you extend? He would say to you: I extend the right hand. So the word of Allah is more deserving of being honored. Yes."
The Shaykh : By Allah, I see that part of honoring the Mushaf is to take it with your right hand and to put it back in its place with your right hand. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
He liked to prefer the right hand in all his affairs.
