Some people say that the reason camel meat invalidates wudu is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once led his companions in prayer, and one of them passed wind, so he said, "Whoever has eaten camel meat, let him perform wudu."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The honorable Shaykh, some people mention that the reason camel meat is among the things that invalidate wudu is a story reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), which is
That he was with his companions before the prayer, and one of them passed wind, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which of you has eaten camel meat? Let him perform wudu as a cover for him." أنه كان مع أصحابه قبيل الصلاة فأحدث أحدهم فقال الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم : أيكم أكل لحم إبل فليتوضأ سترا عليه
What is the authenticity of this story?

The Shaykh : This story is invalid, my brother, invalid. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) could have said, "Whoever has passed wind, let him perform wudu." The Companions had such frankness that they did not fear being exposed. Moreover, the Messenger was asked a question:
“Should I perform ablution after eating mutton?” He replied, “If you wish so”, he then asked, “Should I perform ablution after eating camel meat?” He (ﷺ) said: “Yes”. أنتوضأ من لحوم الغنم ؟ قال : إن شئت قال : أتوضأ من لحوم الإبل ؟ قال : نعم
Bulugh al-Maram 75
So this is not the reason; this is an incorrect reason.
The reason is that we were commanded to perform wudu from it, so we say, "What?" We say, "Hear and obey." We were granted a dispensation regarding sheep meat, so we say, "Praise be to Allah."
As for the wisdom, some scholars say that the wisdom behind this is that camels were created from the jinn, as came in the hadith, and the jinn affect the body. Therefore, when a person becomes angry, he is affected, and anger comes from the jinn. These meats affect the body, and water cools the body and makes it easier for him, just as a person is commanded to perform wudu when angry. This is part of the wisdom. If this is the wisdom, it is apparent; if not, our minds are too short to comprehend the wisdom of Allah the Exalted in His rulings.
Then I say to the students of knowledge: Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked by a woman who said:
why one who has been menstruating must make up for her fast but not for her prayer ما بال الحائض تقضي الصوم ولا تقضي الصلاة
Mishkat al-Masabih 2032
Why? She answered her with an answer that satisfies every believer, saying:
That happened to us, and we were ordered to make up for the fast, but were not ordered to make up for the prayer. كان يصيبنا ذلك فنؤمر بقضاء الصوم ولا نؤمر بقضاء الصلاة
Mishkat al-Masabih 2032
.
This is the wisdom: all the commands and prohibitions of Allah are wisdom. Although Aisha could have said, in my opinion, "It is the making up of fasting," because fasting does not repeat more than once a year, whereas prayer repeats, and menstruation usually comes once every month.
If the menstruating woman were commanded to make up the prayer, it would be a burden on her, if we assume she is one who menstruates for fifteen days and is pure for fifteen days, which means hardship for her. This is part of the wisdom: that prayer repeats, so making it up is difficult, and its repetition provides a dispensation from making it up. As for fasting, it does not repeat, yes, after it.
