The questioner : She asks: Is it permissible to read the book *Ta'tir al-Anam* by al-Nabulsi, which is about dream interpretation?

The Shaykh : Dream interpretation, whether through *Ta'tir al-Anam* as you mentioned—and I have not seen this book—or through other works, is not something a person should trouble himself with. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given us a decisive and comfortable ruling on this matter.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : That is, if a person sees something he dislikes, he should protect himself from its evil by seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, from the evil of what he saw, by spitting to his left three times, by not telling anyone about it, by turning over from the side he was lying on when he saw what he disliked to the other side, and by getting up, performing ablution, and praying. By these means, he protects himself from the evil of the vision that frightened him. This is what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us of, and it is what brings comfort to a person when he sees something he dislikes. However, if he sees something he likes and is pleased with it, there is nothing wrong with telling those he loves about it, but he should not tell those he does not love, because if he tells those he does not love, they may plot against him.

The questioner : Yes, you have done well.
In fact.
