The Shaykh : This also contains evidence for the virtue of the one who is proficient in the Qur’an. “Proficient” is derived from “mahirah,” which means excellence. So the one who is proficient in the Qur’an is the one who excels in its recitation, with complete excellence, and it is easy for him to pronounce it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that he is with the noble, honorable scribes. This is what Allah the Exalted mentioned in His saying:
(11) No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; (12) So whoever wills may remember it. (13) [It is recorded] in honored sheets, (14) Exalted and purified, (15) [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, (16) Noble and dutiful.
['Abasa 80:11-16]
, is it “inna” or “inna”?
The student: It is “inna.”

The Shaykh : It is “inna,”
(11) No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; (12) So whoever wills may remember it. (13) [It is recorded] in honored sheets, (14) Exalted and purified, (15) [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, (16) Noble and dutiful.

. The companionship mentioned here does not necessitate being side by side, but it is a companionship that necessitates general association. Thus, they are like them in reward, even if he is on earth and they are in the sky or in another place. However, companionship is broader than complete juxtaposition that is side by side, because companionship varies according to its contexts, and its implications vary according to the context and circumstances, and it is interpreted in each place in a way that suits it.
I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him, … . I think we are at the chapter on the virtue of the one who is proficient in the Qur’an?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : We did not finish explaining … . In the name of Allah.
The student: From where, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : From the chapter on the virtue of the one who is proficient in the Qur’an.
The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and Messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
As for what follows, Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his Sahih, in the Book of the Prayer of the Traveler and its Shortening:
The chapter on the virtue of the one who is proficient in the Qur’an and the one who stammers in it.
Qutaybah ibn Sa’id and Muhammad ibn ‘Ubayd al-Ghubari both narrated to us from Abu ‘Awanah. Ibn ‘Ubayd said: Abu ‘Awanah narrated to us from Qatadah from Zurarah ibn Awf from Sa’d ibn Hisham from A’ishah, who said:
God’s messenger as saying, “One who is skilled in the Qur’ān is associated with the noble, upright recording angels; and he who falters when reciting the Qur’ān and finds it difficult for him will have a double reward.” قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم: الماهر بالقرءان مع السفرة الكرام البررة والذي يقرأ القرءان ويتتعتع فيه وهو عليه شاق له أجران
Mishkat al-Masabih 2112
.
And Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us from Sa’id. And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Waki‘ narrated to us from Hisham al-Dustawai. Both of them from Qatadah with this chain of narration. And in Waki‘’s hadith it said:
And the one who recites while it is difficult for him has two rewards والذي يقرأ وهو يشتد عليه له أجران
Sahih Ibn Hibban 7:162
