The questioner : The questioner asks: Is it permissible for us to combine the prayers because we are unable to pray in any place in the country when we go to attend to some needs, or should we perform them? Because it may happen that three obligatory prayers pass without us finding a place where we can perform the obligations?

The Shaykh : If you are unable to stand and pray at their proper times, then it is permissible for you to combine the two prayers that are valid to be combined.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : These are the midday prayer with the afternoon prayer, or the sunset prayer with the night prayer. As for combining three prayers, that is not permissible. Therefore, if it happens that the time for the afternoon prayer becomes so tight for you that the sun is about to set, then it is obligatory for you to pray, even if you are in a car, according to your condition. This is because delaying the prayer beyond its time is forbidden. Allah the Exalted said:
And if you fear [an enemy, then pray] on foot or riding فإن خفتم فرجالاً أو ركباناً
[Al-Baqarah 2:239]
and He did not say, "So delay them." Therefore, delaying the prayer beyond its time is not permissible, except for what is combined with what follows it; in that case, it is delayed to be combined with what follows it where combining is permissible.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : As for delaying the prayer beyond its time without combining it, that is not permissible. Rather, it is prayed as I said, according to the situation. Yes.
