The questioner : I am a Muslim man who has a wife who has passed away to the mercy of Allah the Exalted. She was a practitioner of the religion, obedient to me, dear to me, and she established the prayer. And regarding her status in my heart, and so that her memory remains in my heart, and so that I fulfill some of the right she has over me, I pray another obligatory prayer with every obligatory prayer and I dedicate the reward and merit of that prayer to her. And I hope that you, Your Eminence, will inform us whether that is permissible or not, and what I can offer in place of it if it is not permissible. May Allah guide you to what is best for Islam and the Muslims?

The Shaykh : This is not permissible, because the dead person has no obligatory acts upon him. Even if he had left behind a prayer, it is not made up on his behalf. But instead of that, my brother, you should call upon Allah for her forgiveness, mercy, and entry into Paradise, and the like of that in supplication. As for praying an obligatory prayer for her with every obligatory prayer, that is not permissible because it has no basis.

The questioner : Yes, you have done well.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached the end of this session in which we hosted His Eminence Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, professor at the College of Sharia in Qassim, and imam and khatib of the Grand Mosque in the city of Unaizah. We presented to him the questions of the honorable Ibrahim Ilyas Ibrahim, a Sudanese; Salam Ghusham Mizr al-Sa'dun from Iraq, Kut, district fourteen, July; Mashhur Sa'id from Jizan; and the sender M from Dammam, who asked about backbiting a young child; Rizq 'Aydah Mutran al-Hadrami; and Gharif Khadr Kurdushi from the Arab Republic of Syria. And finally, a message from Falah al-Tayn from Jordan, Mada'in.
Thank you to His Eminence Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, and thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Until we meet again in your presence, if Allah wills. We entrust you to Allah, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
