The Book of Friday Prayer, the Two Festivals, the Prayer for Rain, the Eclipse Prayer, and Funerals-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Zuhayr ibn Harb narrated to us, Jarrir narrated to us from Hisham from his father from Aisha, who said:
some Abyssinians came and gave a demonstration of armed fight on the 'Id day in the mosque. The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) invited me (to see that fight). I placed my head on his shoulder and began to see their sport till it was I who turned away from watching them. جاء حبش يزفنون في يوم عيد في المسجد فدعاني النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فوضعت رأسي على منكبه فجعلت أنظر إلى لعبهم حتى كنت أنا التي أنصرف عن النظر إليهم
Sahih Muslim 892f
.

The Shaykh : Zafn means dancing; they were dancing. It has been mentioned previously that they used to play with their spears by carrying them like this, throwing them, and then catching them. It is possible that it was this and that. So do we say that they combined dancing with playing, or is zafn here to be understood as playing? There is a possibility. Combining the two is not impossible, or perhaps some were dancing and some were playing with spears. So whenever it is possible to combine them, that is preferable, better than interpreting the word to mean a distant meaning.
