The Book of Friday Prayer, the Two Festivals, the Prayer for Rain, the Eclipse Prayer, and Funerals-04b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Yahya ibn Yahya narrated, saying: I read to Malik from 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Bakr, who heard 'Abbad ibn Tamim say: I heard 'Abd Allah ibn Zayd al-Mazini say:
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) went out to the place of prayer and made supplication or rain, and turned around his cloak when the faced the qiblah.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1167Sahih (Al-Albani)
.

The Shaykh : His statement (may Allah have mercy on him): "The Book of Seeking Rain." Seeking rain means asking for rainfall. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) tests people with blessings to see who will be grateful and who will be ungrateful, as Sulayman (peace be upon him) said:
This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungratefulهذا من فضل الله عليّ ليبلوَني أأشكر أم أكفر
[An-Naml 27:40]
. He also tests people with hardships to see who will be patient and who will not, and who will turn to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and who will not. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is Wise; He may decree religious or worldly hardships for a servant for a great benefit that he will attain. He tests with hardships for a great wisdom. A person may not know the value of a blessing until a hardship befalls him, and things become clear by their opposites. Allah may test a servant with religious hardships through sin so that he returns to his Lord and repents to Him, and he feels remorse, and his state becomes better than it was before he committed the sin.
The land becomes barren, the rain ceases, and people need their Lord, so they seek rain.
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) went out to the place of prayerخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى
Sunan Abi Dawud 1167Sahih (Al-Albani)
meaning the festival prayer ground,
And he sought rain.فَاسْتَسْقَى
: meaning seeking rain,
and he turned his rida' around when he turned to the Qiblah.وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ حِينَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1511Sahih (Darussalam)
. Turning the cloak here does not mean making the top the bottom, but making the right side the left side. This requires that his back becomes his front and his front becomes his back. This is the meaning of turning the cloak.
If someone asks: What is the wisdom behind that? The scholars answered with two things: The first is that the hadiths came with this: so that the drought may be turned away. The second is so that the person turns from sin to obedience, because the cause of this drought and dryness is sins.
And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earthولو أنّ أهل القرى آمنوا واتّقوا لفتحنا عليهم بركاتٍ من السّماء والأرض
[Al-A'raf 7:96]
So it is as if the person commits to changing his inner garment, which is the garment of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah), by indicating that with changing his outer garment. This is a suitable aspect. If someone asks: If a person does not have a cloak, and he only has a shirt, is it possible to change the shirt? The answer is: No, it is not possible. But if he has an aba (a large cloak), it is possible, and we consider the aba in the position of the cloak. If someone asks: Do we consider the ghutrah (headscarf) in the position of the cloak? The answer is: No, because the ghutrah is a garment for the head, so it resembles the turban, and it is not a garment for the body, so it is not turned.
If someone asks: If he is wearing a kut, meaning a garment that covers the chest, does he turn it and reverse it? What appears to me is that if his garment is worn like a shalwah (a loose garment) meaning he has not put his hands in its sleeves, then he turns it. Otherwise, he does not, because in the second case it resembles a shirt: if he puts his hands in its sleeves, and in the first case it resembles the aba and the cloak.
