The reciter: Yahya ibn Yahya informed us, Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah informed us, from al-Zuhri, from 'Urwah, who said:
The Shaykh : But the hadiths indicate the opposite, that both this and that are permissible. It seems that what 'Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) said was because the sun is more eloquent, and dimming (khusuf) is more eloquent than eclipsing (kusuf) in terms of linguistic indication.
Do not say: "The sun was eclipsed," but say: "The sun was dimmed."
لَا تَقُلْ: كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ، وَلَكِنْ قُلْ: خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُThe Shaykh : But the hadiths indicate the opposite, that both this and that are permissible. It seems that what 'Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) said was because the sun is more eloquent, and dimming (khusuf) is more eloquent than eclipsing (kusuf) in terms of linguistic indication.
