The reciter: Abu 'Amir al-As'ari, 'Abdullah ibn Barrad, and Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' narrated, saying: Abu Usamah narrated to us from Burayd from Abu Burdah from Abu Musa, who said: . And in the narration of Ibn al-'Ala': .
The Shaykh : This hadith is as previously mentioned, but it contains some points of discussion. It is his statement:Sahih al-Bukhari 1059. Regarding the word "the Hour," is the intended meaning the Day of Resurrection, or is the intended meaning the hour of punishment, fearing that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, might send down punishment upon the community? Or is the intended meaning that the narrator imagined that due to the intensity of his alarm, it was like the alarm of one who fears that the Hour has already occurred? And there remains a fourth possibility that he feared it to be the Hour, which is the Day of Resurrection. This fourth possibility is not valid because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) knew that the Hour has signs and indicators that precede it, and that it will not occur on that day. So what remains for us is: is it the hour of punishment, or did the narrator imagine that his alarm was great, like the alarm of one who fears that the Hour has occurred?
The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he stood up in alarm, fearing that it might be the Hour, until he reached the mosque. He stood and prayed with the longest standing, bowing, and prostration I had ever seen him perform in any prayer. Then he said: "Indeed, these signs which Allah sends do not occur for the death of anyone, nor for their life, but Allah sends them to frighten His servants. So when you see any of them, turn in haste to the remembrance of Allah, His supplication, and seeking His forgiveness."
