The reciter: And Nasr ibn Ali al-Juhdhami and Ishaq ibn Ibrahim, both of them, narrated from Isa ibn Yunus from Abu Hamzah al-Himshi. And Abu al-Tahir and Harun ibn Sa'id al-Ayili narrated to me, and the wording is that of Abu al-Tahir, both of them saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn al-Harith informed me from Abu Hamzah ibn Sulaym from Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr from his father from Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'i, who said:
I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he prayed over a funeral, saying: "O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, pardon him and grant him well-being, honor his lodging, widen his entrance, wash him with water, snow, and ice, purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt, and exchange his home for a better one, his family for a better one, and his wife for a better one, and protect him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire." Awf said: I wished that I were the one who died, for the supplication of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) over that deceased.
Sahih Muslim 963d
