The questioner : If one misses the takbirs of the funeral prayer and the funeral is carried away, does he make it up?
The Shaykh : It is not established in the authentic Sunnah that one who misses the takbirs of the funeral prayer should complete them or not complete them. For this reason, the scholars say that the matter is broad in this regard. If he says the closing salam with the imam, there is no harm. If he says the takbir and follows the takbirs out of fear that the funeral will be carried away, there is no harm. If the funeral will remain for those who were absent from the prayer so that they can complete their prayer, there is no harm; he completes it. When it is lifted, he follows the takbirs and says the closing salam.
In our statement, there is an indication that it is recommended that if the imam knows that there are many people in the congregation who are making up the prayer, he should not hasten to bring forward the funeral, but rather wait. Even though people nowadays are very hasty; as soon as he says the salam, they stand up to bring forward the funeral. Be careful, my son, where are you?
But it is said: If there are many people waiting, the best thing is to wait. First, so that these people may attain the reward of the funeral prayer. Second, you do not know that perhaps the supplication that will be answered is with these people who are making up the prayer. Third, perhaps these people who are making up the prayer did not come to this mosque except for the funeral, so how can you deprive them of it?
