Explanation of the Book of Hajj-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abdullah ibn Yusuf narrated to us, Malik informed us, from Nafi', from Abdullah ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The people of Al-Madinah begin their Hil (Ihram) from Dhul-Hulaifah, the people from Ash-Sham from Al-Juhfah, and the people of Najd from Qarn. يهل أهل المدينة من ذي الحليفة وأهل الشام من الجحفة وأهل نجد من قرن
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 831Sahih (Darussalam)
Abdullah said: "And it was reported to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The people of Yemen should enter ihram at Yalamlam. ويهل أهل اليمن من يلملم
Muwatta Malik 20:25

The Shaykh : The miqat of Madinah is Dhu al-Hulayfah, which is a well-known place. It was named so because of the abundance of this tree in it, which is the reed tree. Al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "And they should not enter the state of ihram before Dhu al-Hulayfah." It appears that he leans toward dislike or prohibition, meaning the prohibition of entering the state of ihram before the miqat. This is because if a person enters the state of ihram before the miqat, he is like one who advances Ramadan by fasting one or two days, meaning he anticipates the boundaries of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). There is no doubt that the best is not to enter the state of ihram except from the miqat, and the least we say about entering the state of ihram before the miqat is that it is disliked. However, if a person enters the state of ihram before the miqat as a precaution, there is no blame on him. This is needed by a person when he is riding in an airplane, for if he delays his entering the state of ihram until he is opposite the miqat, the airplane is fast and may pass the miqat before he makes the intention, or he may be overcome by sleep and miss entering the state of ihram from the miqat. So in such a case, there is nothing wrong with entering the state of ihram before being opposite the miqat due to the need for it. And his saying:
The people of Madinah enter the state of ihram يهل أهل المدينة
is a statement in the form of a command, and the command to enter the state of ihram from these miqats has come explicitly in the hadith of Ibn 'Umar.
the people from Ash-Sham from Al-Juhfah وأهل الشام من الجحفة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 831Sahih (Darussalam)
Al-Juhfah was an old, inhabited village. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Allah to transfer the protection of Madinah to al-Juhfah, and the protection descended upon it, its people moved away from it. The people made Rabigh a substitute for al-Juhfah, and Rabigh is slightly farther from Makkah than al-Juhfah. So whoever enters the state of ihram from Rabigh has entered the state of ihram from al-Juhfah and more. Now al-Juhfah has been developed and a paved road has been made to it, so people go to it. If a person enters the state of ihram from al-Juhfah, he has entered the state of ihram from the original miqat. The third, he said:
and the people of Najd from Qarn وأهل نجد من قرن
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 831Sahih (Darussalam)
The fourth, Abdullah said: "And it was reported to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The people of Yemen should enter ihram at Yalamlam. يهل أهل اليمن من يلملم
Muwatta Malik 20:25
" and it is a known place, mountain, or valley on the road to Yemen, called al-Sa'diyyah. All of them, praise be to Allah, are known now. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) designated them before some of the lands for which they were designated were conquered, indicating that these lands would be conquered. Therefore, Ibn 'Abd al-Qawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his jurisprudential poem:
"And their designation is among the miracles of our Prophet *** For designating them before the conquest of the many"
Meaning that it is among the signs of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that he designated these places for the people of these lands, even though they had not been conquered, indicating that they would be conquered and they would perform Hajj. Now, these miqats did not specify in the hadith of Ibn 'Umar whether they are exclusively for their people or for their people and those who pass through them. But in the following hadith of Ibn 'Abbas, there is what indicates that. Look at the heading, his saying: "And they should not enter the state of ihram"
