The questioner : She says: They say that a girl during her menstruation must not visit the sacred sites and the cemetery, and some say that the girl is able to visit the sacred sites and the cemetery, while the married woman is not able to visit the sacred sites and the cemetery. Guide us, may Allah reward you for us, to the correct and true ruling?
The Shaykh : As for the menstruating woman, it is not permissible for her to remain in the mosque, but it is permissible for her to pass through the mosque, provided that she is safe from defiling it. As for staying in it, it is not permissible. This applies to the mosques, whether it is the three mosques, which are al-Masjid al-Haram, the Prophet’s Mosque (peace and blessings be upon him), and al-Masjid al-Aqsa, or other mosques of the Muslims. It is not permissible for her to remain in them while she is menstruating. As for visiting graves, the correct ruling is that it is forbidden for a woman if she leaves her house with the intention of visiting the cemetery. However, if she passes by the cemetery while on her way and stops and greets the people of the graves, there is no blame on her for that.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : And what is forbidden is to go out with the intention of this matter, and there is no difference between whether she is menstruating or not, married or unmarried. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you.

Noura Fahd from the outskirts of Riyadh, 'Abd al-Ghani Muhammad Zarbal al-Maliki from Bani Malik, and the sender N.M.A. from Iraq, Kirkuk. We presented these questions and inquiries to the honorable Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, professor at the colleges of Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in al-Qasim, and imam and khatib of the Great Mosque in the city of Unaizah.
Thank you to the honorable Shaykh Muhammad, and thank you to you, my brothers. Until we meet again in your presence, if Allah wills, we entrust you to Allah. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
