What is the ruling on a menstruating woman visiting sacred places?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This message reached us from one of our listeners. In her message, the sender, Amira Mahmoud from Kirkuk, says: Is it permissible for a menstruating girl to visit sacred places?

Answer:
If her intention is the mosques, it is not permissible; in this case, she does not enter the mosque. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I do not make the mosque lawful for a menstruating woman and for a person who is sexually defiled.إني لا أحل المسجد لحائض ولا جنب
Sunan Abi Dawud 232Da'if (Al-Albani)
So she does not visit them to recite the Qur'an in them, or to sit in them. No. But if she passes by the mosque for a need, just passing through to take something from it, like a prayer mat or a book, or to wake up someone sleeping in the mosque to invite him, or something similar, there is no harm; because Allah said:
except those passing through [a place of prayer]إلَّا عَابِرِي سَبِيلٍ
[Al-Nisa: 43] And because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Aisha, while she was menstruating, to bring him the *khamrah* from the mosque. The *khamrah* is a mat in the mosque; he ordered her to bring it to him. Aisha said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, I am menstruating!" He said:
Your menstruation is not in your hand.إن حيضتك ليست في يدك
Sunan Abi Dawud 261Sahih (Al-Albani)
So he ordered her to bring the *khamrah* from the mosque while she was menstruating; because it is passing through, crossing over, so there is no blame on her -if Allah wills-.
As for if she intends other places besides the mosques, they must be specified. What are the sacred places? She does not visit the graves; a woman does not visit graves. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Cursed are the women who visit gravesلعن زائرات القبور
And they are not called sacred. And I do not know anything besides the mosques that is prohibited for her. Only the mosques are prohibited. As for any place a woman visits for a need, there is no harm. And nothing is called sacred except with evidence. So the mosques are sacred, purified from impurities, so they are called sacred in this sense. But people's houses or graves are not called sacred. Yes.
