And Harun ibn Sa'id al-A'ili narrated to me, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to me, saying: 'Amr informed me, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim, that his father narrated to him, saying: Sahih Muslim 1270a Harun added in his narration: 'Amr said: And Zayd ibn Aslam narrated to me the same from his father, Aslam.
The Shaykh : In this is evidence that in such matters, one stops at mere imitation (ta'assu) only, without seeking a deeper meaning (ta'wil), but we know that it is a stone that neither benefits nor harms, meaning it does not benefit one who exalts it, nor harm one who neglects it, because it is a stone.
As for what some of the common people do now, you find that in times of ease, they bring their children, then they wipe the stone and wipe over their heads and chests. This is a religious innovation (bid'ah), and one must be warned about it, and it should be said that this has no basis.
It is itself a stone with no benefit and no harm, but part of complete humility and worship of Allah is that a person worships Allah with something he does not know the meaning of, as if he is saying:[Al-Ahzab 33:36].
'Umar b. al-Khattib (Allah be pleased with him) kissed (the Black Stone) and then said: By Allah, I know that you are a stone and if I were not to see Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kissing you, I would not have kissed you.
