The questioner : You say: I inform you that I see some people spreading silk, and underneath it there is a pattern or a design spread with gold, and we want to spread silk. Is this permissible or not, knowing that mosques are not spread with silk?

The Shaykh : Silk that is mostly silk is not permissible to spread. If the silk is less than what is present in it, mixed with what it is woven with, then it is permissible. However, it is better not to do so, because this may be a form of extravagance that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) does not like. There is no difference between spreading this forbidden silk; there is no difference between the one who spreads it being a man or a woman, because the correct view is that silk or silk fabric is only permitted for women in their clothing. As for spreading it, there is no difference between the woman and the man in the prohibition of spreading silk.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
