Benefits of the Hadith: (Do not wear silk or brocade, and do not drink from vessels of gold and silver...)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This means that it is not permissible for a believer to eat from vessels of gold or silver or from their platters. For this reason, he said: Sahih Muslim 2067g It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the one who drinks from vessels of silver is as if he is pouring the fire of Hell into his belly. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the reason for that, saying: Sunan an-Nasa'i 5301Sahih (Darussalam) This reason is clear, contrary to those who said that it is a devotional act, or to those who said it is because of the boasting and arrogance in it, and the breaking of the hearts of the poor, and the restriction of the two currencies. We say that the Messenger gave a clear reason, meaning that this abode is not our abode, so it is not befitting for us to indulge in it to this extent. Rather, those who indulge in it to this extent are the disbelievers who have nothing but the life of this world. As for us, our life is the life of the Hereafter, so it is not befitting for us to enjoy the world to this extent. Then, eating and drinking from these vessels instills arrogance in the heart.
