That 'Umar ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Ma'mar intended to marry his son Talhah to the daughter of Shaybah ibn Jubayr during the Hajj, and Aban ibn Uthman was the leader of the pilgrims at that time, so he sent a message to Aban saying, "I have intended to marry Talhah ibn 'Umar, and I would like you to be present for it." Aban said to him, "Do I not see you as a rough, uncouth Iraqi? I heard Uthman ibn 'Affan say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A person in the state of ihram does not contract a marriage."
