In this is evidence of the scrupulousness of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and his asceticism regarding the worldly life, and that he did not want from the worldly life more than his need. In it is also evidence that a person does not give charity with something until he makes it his property, based on his saying:Sunan an-Nasa'i 2607Sahih (Darussalam) Yes.
I heard 'Umar ibn al-Khattab say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give me alms, so I would say, "Give it to someone who is poorer than me," until one time he gave me a sum of money, and I said, "Give it to someone who is poorer than me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it and make it your property, and give charity from it.
