The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Translating the meanings of the Qur'an is permissible, and the Qur'an cannot be translated except by a translation of its meaning.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Because they say that a literal translation is impossible due to the differences between the Arabic language and others, such as the inversion of word order. For example, in languages other than Arabic, the modified noun comes after the modifier, and likewise the subject and predicate, and the adjective and the noun it describes. Therefore, a literal translation in the Arabic order is not possible. For this reason, every translation is a translation of meaning. However, sometimes they take word for word, and sometimes it is like a general explanation, which is called a general explanation.
