The reciter: Khalid ibn Makhlad narrated to us, he said: Sulayman ibn Bilal narrated to us, he said: Abdullah ibn Dinar narrated to me from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: .
The Shaykh : This has been discussed previously. "Tayghidh al-arkam" (what the wombs decrease), what does it mean? It means to decrease, as evidenced by the phrase "and what they increase." It has passed us in the rules of exegesis that the interpretation of a word is known by mentioning its opposite. We mentioned from that the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:71] If He had said to you, what is the meaning of "thibatan" (in groups)? It would be individually, because He opposed it with His saying "or go forth all together." He said: [Ar-Ra'd 13:8] Tayghidh means to decrease, ziyadah means to increase, and to rise. Does "tayghidh al-arkam" here refer to what the wombs decrease from the known usual period such that the child is born, or the fetus is born before the completion of the nine months which is the norm, and what they increase beyond nine months? Or does it refer to what they increase in number and decrease in number, one in the womb or two or three? Or both matters? Both matters, because the rule in exegesis is also that whenever a verse is susceptible to two or more meanings and there is no contradiction between them, it is to be understood as encompassing all of them.
The keys to the unseen are five; no one knows them except Allah. No one knows what the wombs decrease except Allah, and no one knows what is in tomorrow except Allah, and no one knows when the rain will come except Allah, and no soul knows on which land it will die except Allah, and no one knows when the Hour will stand except Allah.
