Explanation of the Book of Tawhid-05a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Abu Ma'mar narrated to us, he said: 'Abd al-Warith narrated to us, he said: Husayn al-Mu'allim narrated to us, he said: 'Abd Allah ibn Buraydah narrated to me, from Yahya ibn Ya'mar, from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both):
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say, "I seek refuge (with YOU) by Your 'Izzat, None has the right to be worshipped but You Who does not die while the Jinns and the human beings die." أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يقول : أعوذ بعزتك الذي لا إله إلا أنت، الذي لا يموت والجن والإنس يموتون
Sahih al-Bukhari 7383
.

The Shaykh : The point of the hadith is the phrase:
I seek refuge in Your Majesty, in أعوذ بعزتك الذي
. I do not have a thousand of what you have? So he affirmed for Allah Majesty. It was previously established that Majesty has three categories: the Majesty of subjugation and dominance, the Majesty of divine decree, and the Majesty of invulnerability. The meaning of "I seek refuge" is "I take shelter." It is also said: "I seek refuge" and "I take shelter." The difference between them is that "taking shelter" (al-awd) is in seeking what is loved, and "seeking refuge" (al-iyadh) is fleeing from what is feared. And in this regard is the saying of the poet, which should not be for anyone but Allah.
"O He in whom I take shelter in what I hope for, *** And in whom I seek refuge from what I fear
People cannot mend a bone that You have broken, *** nor can they break a bone that You have mended"

The point of the hadith is the phrase: "O He in whom I take shelter in what I hope for, and in whom I seek refuge from what I fear". This is said in praise of a person, but it should not be for anyone but Allah alone; He is the one who deserves this.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : What do you see, everyone? Do you see that we should put aside these previous questions, or should we open the floor until someone asks about the chapter on how revelation began with the Messenger of Allah?

The questioner : There is a distinction in this.

The Shaykh : What is the detail?

The questioner : If he is asking about the lesson from last night, he is permitted to ask. But if it is from before last night, he is not.

The Shaykh : Do you agree with this? What is related to the recent past lesson is accepted, and what is not is not.
