Chapter: Asking by the names of Allah the Exalted and seeking refuge in them.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: The chapter on asking by the names of Allah the Exalted and seeking refuge in them.

The Shaykh : Asking by the names of Allah is indicated by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them ولله الأسماء الحسنى فادعوه بها
[Al-A'raf 7:180]
. It has been established for us that the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So call upon Him by them فادعوه بها
includes two things. The first is that you worship Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in accordance with these names, so that the supplication in His saying:
So call upon Him by them فادعوه بها
means worship. The second is that you make them a means for you in supplication by mentioning them before the supplication or by concluding the supplication with them, so you say, "O Forgiver, forgive me," and "O All-Hearing, make for me a hearing," and the like. So the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So call upon Him by them فادعوه بها
has two meanings. The first meaning is worshipping Allah in accordance with them, because supplication comes to mean worship
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible. وقال ربكم ادعوني استجب لكم إن الذين يستكبرون عن عبادتي سيدخلون جهنم داخرين
[Ghafir 40:60]
. The second is asking Allah by them, meaning you make them a means for you in supplication, whether you place them before the supplication or conclude the supplication with them. As for seeking refuge in them, it is apparent that you say, "O Allah, I seek refuge in Your greatest name, I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah," meaning you seek refuge in the names of Allah and the attributes of Allah.
