The questioner : Her third question: She says, “I am a woman who bathes from below the navel to the feet, then performs wudu. I do this for every prayer, and some people tell me that this is from waswasah (whispers of Satan). Does the ghusl (full ritual bath) suffice in place of wudu?”

The Shaykh : What you are doing, which is bathing the lower part of the body, has no basis in the religion. If a woman is required to perform ghusl (full ritual bath) due to janabah (major ritual impurity), menstruation, or post-natal bleeding, it is obligatory for her to wash her entire body.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : It is like a man: if he is required to perform ghusl (full ritual bath) due to janabah (major ritual impurity), it is obligatory for him to wash his entire body. As for matters other than those that necessitate ghusl, your action is not prescribed. In fact, if a woman relieves herself of urine or feces, she should wash only the parts affected by impurity, and nothing else, then perform wudu for prayer. As for this action you are performing, there is no doubt that it is from waswasah (whispers of Satan), extravagance, and transgressing the limits.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So you must seek forgiveness from Allah and refrain from doing it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
