What is the meaning of their saying: “I encountered in Madinah a hundred, all of whom were trustworthy, yet it is said that hadith is not taken from them because they are not of its people”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He encountered a hundred in Madinah, all of whom were trustworthy, yet hadith is not taken from them. Trustworthy and reliable, or how?

The Shaykh : Yes, they are trustworthy, but people are cautious about them; they fear them and guard against them. And it seems, and Allah knows best, that they are either from the extremists regarding 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), or they lean toward some innovation I have not mentioned. The point is to be cautious and guard against narrating from a person whose reliability you do not know.

The questioner : ... ؟

The Shaykh : They are trustworthy in their religion and reliable, but they have a bias. It is possible that their memory is weak, but the context of the reports mentioned by Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) indicates that the problem lies in something other than weakness.
