The Book of Faith-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Hajjaj ibn al-Sha'ir narrated to me, Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, he said: Ayub said: "I have a neighbor, and then he mentioned his virtues. If he were to testify for me regarding two dates, I would not consider his testimony valid."

The Shaykh : It is clear that a person may be virtuous and righteous, but his testimony is not accepted due to poor memory or other reasons.

The questioner : He persists in a great matter.

The Shaykh : A great matter; we do not know what this great matter is. It could be an innovation, such as the innovation of the Rafidah regarding the return (raj'ah) or others.

The questioner : ... Imam Ahmad ...

The Shaykh : But this Jabir is known for lying. Now, Sufyan says: "I do not consider it permissible to mention anything from them," yet he narrated thirty thousand. How could it be fifty thousand and seventy thousand! And the intention of Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) is to clarify the status of men whose situation may be confusing for some hadith scholars. Therefore, it would be good if these men were counted.
