The questioner : The other question asks about wearing a light abaya that reveals the color of the dress underneath, along with lifting it up to the thighs; what is the ruling on this? We hope for guidance?

The Shaykh : The ruling in this matter depends on the dress underneath this abaya. If it is beautiful, then it is not permissible to wear such an abaya or to lift it up, because it exposes the beautiful clothes underneath. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment ولا يضربن بأرجلهن ليُعلم ما يخفين من زينتهن
[An-Nur 24:31]
If Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, has forbidden a woman to do what reveals the sound of her adornment, then what about what reveals the color of her adornment?
As for if the dress underneath this abaya is not beautiful and does not attract attention, then there is nothing wrong with wearing a light abaya. As for lifting it up, it entails another harm, which is that lifting the abaya above the buttocks exposes and reveals the buttocks, thereby resulting in fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) from it and fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) through it.
