And we answer — with the help of Allah the Exalted — this doubt with two answers: a general one and a detailed one.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And we answer, with the help of Allah the Exalted, this doubt with two answers: a general one and a detailed one" The difference between them is that the general one covers all the issues, while the detailed one speaks about each specific issue. Which is more beneficial for the student of knowledge? The general one, because from the general one he takes a rule that benefits him in the specific issue and others. The specific one is more effective in silencing the opponent, unraveling his argument, and refuting his proof. So let us look at "As for the general one, it is summarized in two things. The first is that we do not concede that the interpretation of the Salaf of it is a deviation from its apparent meaning, for the apparent meaning of speech is what comes to mind from it, and it varies according to the context and what the speech is added to, for the meaning of words varies according to the composition of the speech, and speech is composed of words and sentences, whose meaning appears and is determined by combining some of them with others" This is one point. That is, if they say to us, "You have deviated this from its apparent meaning," we say, "No, we have not deviated it, because what determines the apparent meaning or negates it is the context and the composition. How many words have one meaning in one context and another meaning in another context? We have not deviated it from its apparent meaning. This is one point."
