The Shaykh :"And this hadith is one of the strongest conclusive arguments against the people of figurative interpretation who distort the texts of the attributes from their apparent meaning without any evidence from the Book of Allah or from the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)" to the end of it.
Conclusive. And what is the meaning of conclusive? That which reaches the mother of the brain, and this is used to express certain destruction. From this is His saying, the Exalted:
Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى الْبَاطِلِ
[Al-Anbya 21:18]
What is it?
So it smashes it فَيَدْمَغُهُ
There is no cure
and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs فَيَدْمَغُهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٌ
[Al-Anbya 21:18]
in that case.
"Conclusive against the people of figurative interpretation who distort the texts of the attributes from their apparent meaning without any evidence from the Book of Allah the Exalted or from the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, they distort them with false doubts in which they are contradictory and confused. For if the intended meaning were other than their apparent meaning—apparent meaning of what? The texts—if the intended meaning were other than their apparent meaning, as they claim, Allah the Exalted and His Messenger would have clarified it. And if their apparent meaning were impossible for Allah, as they alleged, Allah and His Messenger would have clarified it, as in this hadith. And if the apparent meaning befitting Allah were impossible for Allah, then the Book and the Sunnah would contain descriptions of Allah the Exalted with what is impossible for Him, which is innumerable except with great difficulty, and this is one of the greatest impossibilities".
That is to say, if we were to say that the apparent meanings of the texts are impossible for Allah, and the Qur'an and Sunnah are full of attributes, then this would mean that the Book and the Sunnah are full of describing Allah with what does not befit Him. I think the three conditions are clear: if it were other than their apparent meaning, Allah would have clarified it; if their apparent meaning were impossible for Allah, Allah would have clarified it; if their apparent meaning were impossible for Allah, the Book and the Sunnah would be full of what? Descriptions of Allah with what does not befit Him.
