And the answer to the second question: That Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari and other leaders of the Muslims do not claim for themselves infallibility from error

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And the answer to the second question: That Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari and other leaders of the Muslims do not claim for themselves infallibility from error. No human being claims infallibility from error. Rather, they did not attain leadership in religion except when they knew the measure of themselves and placed them in their proper station, and there was in their hearts of the exaltation of the Book and the Sunnah what qualified them to be leaders. Allah the Exalted said:
And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and
[As-Sajdah 32:24]
"

The student: ... .

The Shaykh : No, and We made them.
The student:
And We made of them وجعلنا منهم
.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student:
And We made of them وجعلنا منهم
.

The Shaykh : The second
And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire
[Al-Qasas 28:41]
As for this
And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs.
[As-Sajdah 32:24]
"And He said regarding Ibrahim:
(120) Indeed, Abraham was a [comprehensive] leader, devoutly obedient to Allah, inclining toward truth, and he was not of those who associate others with Allah. (121) [He was] grateful for His favors. Allah chose him and guided him to a straight path.
[An-Nahl 16:120-121]

Then We revealed to you, [O Muhammad], to follow the religion of Abraham
[An-Nahl 16:123]
"
This must be mentioned as omitted, meaning there is a consideration, because the evidence in it is in this omitted part:
Then We revealed to you, [O Muhammad], to follow the religion of Abraham
[An-Nahl 16:123]
Good, a fine point. Although it is taken from his saying:
was a nation كان أمة
meaning a leader. Good, we say now: Does Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari (may Allah have mercy on him) believe that he is infallible from error? Absolutely not. Rather, he holds that he is susceptible to error and that his saying is not a proof for others. And so, every person who knows the measure of himself and places him in his proper station and is humble before Allah, the truth, and creation, attains thereby elevation.
Whoever is humble before Allah, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) raises him
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 34:438
And they were not leaders except by this, when they exalted the Book and the Sunnah and it became their reference, and the love of the Book and the Sunnah mixed with their blood, they became leaders. O Allah, make us among the righteous leaders.
