One who denies a single word of the Qur'an has committed disbelief because it is mass-transmitted, so how is it that one who denies intercession and the descent of 'Isa is not declared a disbeliever, when the hadith has been established by mass transmission?

The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah reward you. I have heard that scholars declare as disbelievers those who deny, meaning, a single word of the Noble Qur'an, saying that he is a disbeliever?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Because it has been established by mass transmission?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : O Shaykh, why do scholars not declare as disbelievers those who deny the intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : The intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for them; among the Muslims, there are those who deny this, and the coming of 'Isa (peace be upon him) at the end of times, and some of the unseen matters which they deny, and which have been established by mass transmission from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). How do they declare as disbelievers one who denies a single word of the Noble Qur'an, but do not declare as disbelievers one who denies a hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?

The Shaykh : It might be, for example, a figurative interpretation, or that the causes mentioned by the Shaykh al-Islam are not established in his view, but there is no doubt in the Qur'an.

The questioner : Is there any doubt in what has been established by mass transmission? Because what has been established by mass transmission is certain.

The Shaykh : Perhaps, perhaps we do not know, we do not know, yes.
