The Shaykh : Then he said in the hadith:
Hold to it and stick fast to it. تمسكوا بها وعضوا عليها بالنواجذ
Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani)
Hold fast to it. Here, one is holding fast to it. In his saying
Hold fast to it تمسكوا بها
, he did not say "hold it," but rather "hold fast to it," which indicates that it is a means of salvation, just as one holds fast to a rope when drowning to be saved by it. The Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Rightly Guided Caliphs is a means of salvation.
and bite down on it with your molars وعضوا عليها بالنواجذ
In case your hands slip, your molars will remain. Yes, and this is part of the intensity of holding fast. Yes... His molars are not needed; the important thing is that in any case, it is as if the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is saying: Hold fast to it by all means of attachment, with the hand and with the molars. Yes, and this is intended to mean the intensity of holding fast to his Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs.
Know that if you do that, your chest will open up for Islam, your heart will be at peace with faith, and the deed will become easy and facilitated for you. But whenever you turn away, the deed becomes difficult for you. The deed becomes difficult for you to the extent of your turning away. Ask those whom Allah has blessed with guidance and who have taken this path as their way—ask them about the hardship of worship for them. They will say, "It is easy." But ask those who turn away; tell them to pray the obligatory prayer in the mosque, and they will see that it is heavier for them than? Heavier than anything. Yes.
Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error. وإياكم ومحدثات الأمور فإن كل محدثة بدعة وكل بدعة ضلالة
Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani)
Beware إياكم
A warning.
of newly invented matters محدثات الأمور
In the religion, as evidenced by his saying:
Hold fast to my practice عليكم بسنتي
. As for newly invented matters in worldly affairs, if they assist in obedience to Allah, they are a cause and a means; and if they assist in evil, they are a cause and a means, and so on.
