Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said "And their methodology regarding the names and attributes of Allah is as follows: First in affirmation, second in negation, and third in what has not been negated or affirmed". In affirmation, meaning what has been affirmed for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), their methodology is "affirming what Allah has affirmed for Himself in His Book or on the tongue of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), without distortion, without negation, without asking how, and without likening". This is their methodology in affirmation. They affirm what Allah has affirmed for Himself in the Qur'an, such as rising above the Throne, the Most High, the Hand, the Face, the two Eyes, and the like. They affirm these for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He says "without distortion, without negation, without asking how, and without likening".
Without distortion. Distortion is changing the wording, either in pronunciation or in meaning. It is changed either in pronunciation or in meaning. Distortion in pronunciation is like what they mentioned about some of the innovators, may Allah protect us from them, that he recited the statement of the Exalted
And Allah spoke to Moses directly وكلم الله موسى تكليما

The student: ...

The Shaykh : That the speech be from Moses, not from Allah
, and likewise "without negation". Negation means preventing the text from its indication, preventing the text from its indication. This includes the one who prevents it from its indication and directs it to something else, and the one who prevents it from its indication but does not direct it to something else. Because people, regarding the texts on the attributes,
some prevent its indication of what Allah intended, but they do not affirm a meaning for it. These are the ones called the Mu'attilah. They say, "Allah did not intend such and such by this." Okay, what did He intend? We say nothing. We say nothing.
And some said "Allah did not intend such and such, but rather He intended such and such". These are the people of figurative interpretation, but we say to them, in truth, they are the people of distortion, because they distorted the speech from its meaning.
And some said "Allah the Exalted intended by it such and such, which agrees with the apparent meaning of the speech". These are the people of the Sunnah and the community.
"Without asking how and without likening". Okay, "without asking how and without likening". The meaning of asking how is mentioning the manner, and its definition will come in a separate chapter. And likening is affirming a similar thing.
If someone says, "These four matters from which the people of the Sunnah and the community purified their creed: some of them exist in the Qur'an, and some do not exist." Without distortion exists in the Qur'an, meaning the condemnation of those who distort the words from their places exists? It exists. So our saying "distortion" corresponds to what came in the Qur'an. And negation: is negation mentioned in the Qur'an with this word or this root? No, but there is what points to it
Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand. إنا جعلناه قرآنا عربيا لعلكم تعقلون
[Az-Zukhruf 43:3]
. And the one who says, "Allah did not intend such and such, or rather He intended such and such," did not understand the speech in its meaning. Okay, does "without asking how" exist? No.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Asking how is not present, but it is present from the Salaf, as they said in the famous phrase "They were commanded to affirm it as it came, without asking how"... it came from the Salaf.
And does likening exist in the Qur'an? Yes, it exists in the Qur'an
