The Shaykh : He said: "And the first one known for denying the divine attributes in this Ummah is al-Ja'd ibn Dirham". This al-Ja'd ibn Dirham is the first one known for denying the divine attributes in this Ummah. Yes, how was that? - I think there is a little time left before the adhan? Yes, there is a little left - Okay. The first thing al-Ja'd ibn Dirham uttered regarding the denial of the divine attributes was two words: he said "Indeed, Allah did not take Ibrahim as a close friend, nor did He speak to Musa with direct speech". This was the first thing he spoke. "So when the day of 'Id al-Adha came, Khalid ibn 'Abd Allah al-Qasri (may Allah have mercy on him) took him out bound and demanded that he retract his opinion, but he refused to retract. So he addressed the people... Khalid ibn 'Abd Allah al-Qasri, because he was the governor of the region, and he said to them: 'O people, sacrifice, and may Allah accept your sacrifices, for I am going to sacrifice al-Ja'd ibn Dirham. He claimed that Allah did not take Ibrahim as a close friend, nor did He speak to Musa with direct speech.' Then he descended from the pulpit and sacrificed him, slaughtering him". Yes, a cow is for seven people and a camel is for seven people, and this? For hundreds of thousands. For this reason, Ibn al-Qayyim said:
"The one who thanks the sacrificial animal, every follower of the Sunnah *** May Allah reward you, O brother of the sacrifice"
So he praised him, saying, "May Allah reward you, O brother of the sacrifice." And thus it should be with those who cause corruption on earth; do not be lenient, do not be lenient with them. If they persist in what they are upon, then killing them is a relief for them and for others. As for them, it is because they are saved from the remainder of the evil of their own selves, for if they remained, they would increase in sin. Allah the Exalted said[Ali 'Imran 3:178] So when we kill this... the one who causes corruption on earth, we have done him the utmost kindness so that he does not increase in sin.
And secondly, it is a relief for others from their evil, a relief for others from their evil, because the people are saved from the remainder of their evil... Then the people turn away from what they are upon and are deterred, because the faith in the hearts of many people is weak, and nothing deters them except the deterrent of the authority. So what Khalid ibn 'Abd Allah al-Qasri did to al-Ja'd ibn Dirham is among the best things that can be. Al-Ja'd ibn Dirham was followed by al-Jahm ibn Safwan, and al-Jahm ibn Safwan was more wicked than him and stronger in logic, so he spread this religious innovation and made causes for it and made doubts for it until it spread from al-Jahm ibn Safwan. For this reason, the school is called the school of the Jahmiyyah, not the Ja'diyyah, although the origin is from al-Ja'd ibn Dirham. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah says "It has been said that al-Ja'd ibn Dirham was from the land of Harran in Sham, and that there were people there from the Sabians, the philosophers, and the Chaldeans who worship the stars and others, and that he was influenced by their schools. Then they say that he connected with Talut, the nephew of Labid ibn al-'A'sam, who cast magic on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)". So this doctrine is derived from the Jews, the Zoroastrians, the polytheists, the philosophers, and the Sabians. So it is, may Allah protect us, a concentrated evil, until it reached what it reached of the great trials for the people of Islam. Whoever among you has read history knows what happened to Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) and to the scholars in his time of the calamities that befall them because of this vile religious innovation. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
