Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Chapter Twenty-Two: The Salaf's Warning Against the Science of Theology. The Science of Theology is what the theologians introduced into the fundamentals of religion, establishing beliefs through the methods they invented, while turning away from what the Book and the Sunnah brought".
Now, this is its definition.
So, the Science of Theology is a term for establishing beliefs through theological methods based on the dialectic they call reason. Pay attention: it is a term for establishing beliefs through theological methods. That is why we call it the Science of Theology, because of their much talking, because of the abundance of speech. I mean, you find a scholar of theology writing two or three pages for a single issue, and it is all chatter and nonsense. That is why we call it the Science of Theology. It is the establishment of beliefs through theological methods built on the dialectic they call reason. This is the Science of Theology.
The Science of Theology did not emerge until after the passing of the Companions. When these people entered, some of them being forced to enter Islam, they tried to corrupt the beliefs. They brought these methods based on dialectic, contention, dispute, and confusion. Some of them even say: A person's belief is not valid until doubt precedes it. So he doubts first, then tries to remove that doubt. But I seek refuge in Allah from one who, when he doubts, trusts himself to return to certainty. I fear that if he doubts, he will return to disbelief. Yes, and in any case, their speech is invalid from its origin. And the Salaf (may Allah have mercy on them) warned against it. Yes.
