The reader: "He, the Exalted, said:
And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:48]

and do not follow their inclinations and beware of them, lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has revealed to you ولا تتبع أهواءهم واحذرهم أن يفتنوك عن بعض ما أنزل الله إليك
[Al-Ma'idah 5:49]
Following them in their guidance: it is following what they desire, or a place where following what they desire is likely, and leaving it is assistance in leaving that, and cutting off the source of following them in what they desire.
Know that what is in the Book of Allah of the prohibition against imitating the disbelieving nations and their stories, in which there is a lesson for us in leaving "

The Shaykh : I have "Know that what is in the Book of Allah" like this with you?
The reader: I have "that in the Book of Allah" correction, O Shaykh

The Shaykh : Ah?
The student: Do I say correction or not?

The Shaykh : No, what is the copy like?
The student: The end of the sentence is raised, it is not suitable to be the news of "that"

The Shaykh : And know that what is in the Book of Allah of the prohibition is much.
The student: If we say without "what," it must be corrected

The Shaykh : How?
The student: That in the Book of Allah of the prohibition is much

The Shaykh : No, do you not have "that" with you?
The reader: In, yes

The Shaykh : Read.
The reader: "And know that in the Book of Allah of the prohibition against imitating the disbelieving nations and their stories, in which there is a lesson for us in leaving what they did, is much, such as His saying when He mentioned what He did to the People of the Book of the [severe] punishments:
So take heed, O you who have vision. فاعتبروا يا أولي الأبصار

There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding لقد كان في قصصهم عبرة لأولي الألباب

and the like of that, and some of it indicates our objective, and some of it contains a reference and completion of the objective. Then, when the objective is to clarify that differing from them in most of their matters is better for us, all the verses indicate that. And if the objective is that differing from them is obligatory upon us, this is only indicated by some of the verses and not others, and we have mentioned what indicates that differing from them is prescribed in general, since that is the objective here. And as for distinguishing the indication of obligation, or the obligatory, from other things, and distinguishing"

The Shaykh : And as for.
The reader: And as for distinguishing the indication of obligation, or the obligatory.

The Shaykh : The obligation from other things and distinguishing the obligatory from other things.
The reader: And as for.

The Shaykh :"And as for distinguishing the indication of obligation from other things and distinguishing the obligatory from other things" Yes.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, what we have is better.
The reader: "And distinguishing the obligatory from other things".

The Shaykh : Yes, and distinguishing the obligatory from other things.
The reader: "And as for distinguishing the indication of obligation from other things and distinguishing the obligatory from other things, that is not the objective here, and we will mention, if Allah wills, that imitating them in their festivals is among the forbidden matters".

The Shaykh : We stop here.
