Reading from the author's words with commentary and collation of manuscripts: "Then he said: {And they withdraw their hands} Mujahid said

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "Then he said:
And they withdraw their hands ويقبضون أيديهم
Mujahid said: "
They withdraw them from spending in the cause of Allah ". And Qatadah said: " They withdraw their hands from every good ". So Mujahid referred to benefiting with wealth, and Qatadah referred to benefiting with wealth and body.
And withdrawing the hand: is an expression for holding back, as in His saying, the Exalted:
And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely ولا تجعل يدك مغلولة إلى عنقك ولا تبسطها كل البسط
[Al-Isra 17:29]
.
And in His saying:
And the Jews say, "The hand of Allah is chained." Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. Rather, both His hands are extended; He spends however He wills. وقالت اليهود يد الله مغلولة غُلت أيديهم ولعنوا بما قالوا بل يداه مبسوطتان ينفق كيف يشاء
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
And it is a customary reality, apparent from the wording, or it is a well-known metaphor "
.

The Shaykh : Now, in your copies, is it "or it is"?
The reader: Or it is.

The Shaykh : All the manuscripts.
The student: And it is.

The Shaykh : I mean, does the meaning of "extending" mean extending literally, or does "extending" mean spending?
And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely ولا تجعل يدك مغلولة إلى عنقك ولا تبسطها كل البسط
[Al-Isra 17:29]
The meaning is: do not hold back from spending, and do not be extravagant by extending it to the utmost. This is the customary reality in this meaning. Did you understand? But if we look at the apparent reality of the wording, extending the hand means stretching it out, and withdrawing it means clenching it, so that you close your fingers. Is this what is intended, or is the first meaning intended? Because the customary reality is that when a man says he extended his hand in spending, it means his hand became generous and he does not hold back. Yes, there are two possibilities, and both are correct. For this reason, in the hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The hand of Allah is full, a shower يد الله ملأى سحاء
meaning that spending does not settle in it; he spends constantly. So, do they withdraw their hands, which is the opposite of that?
The student: They extend them.

The Shaykh : The opposite of that, what is it? They extend them. And the meaning of withdrawing it is that they withdraw it from spending from wealth, or by the second expression, which is broader, they withdraw it from every good. And this is the saying of Qatadah, and it is broader. Yes.
