Explanation of the author's statement and his saying: (And the Jews said, "The hand of Allah is closed. Their hands are closed and they are cursed for what they said. No, His two hands are open, and He spends as He wills.")

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said:
And the Jews say, "The hand of Allah is chained." وقالت اليهود يد الله مغلولة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
The Jews are the followers of Musa (peace be upon him). They were named Jews. It is said that this is because they said
indeed, we have turned back to You إنا هدنا إليك
[Al-A'raf 7:156]
And based on this, the name would be Arabic, because this is "Yahud" when it returns, yes, it is Arabic. It is also said that its origin is "Yahuda" and the Jews are those attributed to him, but when Arabized, the "dhal" became a "dal," so it was said "Yahud." Whichever it is, it does not concern us whether it is this or that, but we know that the Jews are a sect of the Children of Israel who followed
The student: Musa

The Shaykh : Musa (peace be upon him). And these Jews are among the most rebellious and defiant of people, because the rebellion of Pharaoh and his tyranny over them caused that to be imprinted in their souls, and rebellion against people, and even against the Creator (Mighty and Majestic), became part of them. So they describe Allah the Exalted with attributes of defects, may Allah disfigure them, and they are the ones who possess them. They say
The hand of Allah is chained يد الله مغلولة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
meaning restrained from spending, as Allah the Exalted said:
And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck ولا تجعل يدك مغلولة إلى عنقك
[Al-Isra 17:29]
meaning what? Restrained from spending. The meaning is not that you do not say it like this, no one said it like this, but the meaning is do not restrain it from spending. So they say
The hand of Allah is chained يد الله مغلولة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
meaning restrained from spending. And they said
Indeed, Allah is poor إن الله فقير
[Ali 'Imran 3:181]
poor. As for their saying that the hand of Allah is closed, they said, yes, if it were not closed, all people would be rich. So His giving to Zayd and not giving to 'Amr, this is the closing and the non-spending. And they said
Indeed, Allah is poor إن الله فقير
[Ali 'Imran 3:181]
because Allah said, "Who is it that will lend Allah a good loan, and He will multiply it for him?" So they said to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Muhammad, your Lord has become poor, so He is borrowing from us." May Allah fight them. And the Jews also said that Allah is incapable, because when He created the heavens and the earth, He rested on the day of Saturday and made the holiday a place of festival, so their festival became the day of Saturday. May Allah fight them. Here He (Mighty and Majestic) says:
And the Jews say, "The hand of Allah is chained." وقالت اليهود يد الله مغلولة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
The connection is: "Hand" they made it singular, because the single hand is less in giving than the two hands. Therefore, the answer came with the dual and the opening, so He said:
Rather, both His hands are extended بل يداه مبسوطتان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
So Allah the Exalted mentioned that when these Jews described Allah with this defect, Allah punished them for what they said, so He said:
Their hands are bound غُلّت أيديهم
meaning prevented from spending. And for this reason, the Jews are the most severe of people in gathering wealth and withholding giving. So they are the stingiest of Allah's servants and the most miserly in seeking wealth. It is not possible for them to spend a single coin unless they think they will earn a dirham in return for it. And we see now that they have large and great associations, but they want more and more behind these associations and donations. They want to dominate the world. So do not say, O human, how do we combine His saying:
Their hands are closed. غلت أيديهم
with the reality today regarding the Jews, because we say now that these people give in order to profit more. This is their intention.
Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. غُلت أيديهم ولعنوا بما قالوا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
Cursed for what they said: meaning they were expelled and distanced from the mercy of Allah the Exalted, because affliction is tied to speech. So when they said and described Allah with withholding, they were expelled and distanced from His mercy. It was said to them, if Allah the Exalted is as you said, He does not spend, then let Him prevent you from what? His mercy, so that He does not give you from His generosity, so that He does not give you from His generosity. So they were punished with two things: by turning the description to them, with what? With His saying?
The student: Closed

The Shaykh : Yes, and by punishing them, or by obliging them with the implication of their saying, with what? By distancing them from the mercy of Allah so that they do not find the generosity, kindness, and favor of Allah.
and cursed are they for what they say ولعنوا بما قالوا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
What is the "ba" here?
The student: For causality

The Shaykh : For causality, meaning because of. And the sign of the "ba" that is for causality is that it is correct for the word "cause" to follow it, "because of." And "ma" here can be a verbal noun or a relative pronoun. If it is a relative pronoun, the referent is omitted, and its estimation is
The student: What they said

The Shaykh : What they said. And if it is a verbal noun, the verb is converted to a verbal noun, meaning by their saying.
Then Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, invalidated their claim, so He said
Rather, both His hands are extended بل يداه مبسوطتان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
and
Rather بل
Is this here for transitional negation or invalidating negation?
The student: Invalidating negation

The Shaykh : Invalidating negation. And look at how the expression differs.
Rather, both His hands are extended بل يداه مبسوطتان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
Because the context is boasting of generosity and giving. Giving with the two hands is more complete than giving
The student: With the single hand

The Shaykh : With the single hand. And His saying:
extended مبسوطتان
is the opposite of their saying
The student: Closed

The Shaykh :
bound مغلولة
So the hand of Allah the Exalted is open and expansive, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The hand of Allah is full, a shower يد الله ملأى سحاء
Full of generosity. Yes, "full" is clear in its meaning, and "generosity" means abundant giving.
night and day الليل والنهار
Meaning always, always giving.
Do you not see what He has spent since He created the heavens and the earth? It has not diminished what is in His right hand أرأيتم ما أنفق منذ خلق السماوات والأرض فإنه لم يغض ما فيه يمينه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 7:120
No one can count it. And yet, it has not diminished what is in His right hand. And this is like His saying in the Holy Hadith:
O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it.
Sahih Muslim 2577a
And let us look at the needle. A needle of iron dipped in the sea, if you pull it out, the sea decreases by a meter or two meters.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: ...

The Shaykh : And nothing, and nothing. And this formulation is used for exaggeration in the non-decrease, because the non-decrease of the sea in such a situation is what?
The student: Known.

The Shaykh : It is known, it is not denied. It is impossible that the sea decreases by this. So it is also impossible that the kingdom of Allah the Exalted decreases if every human from the jinn and humans stood up and asked Allah the Exalted, and He gave every person what he asked for, that would not decrease anything from His kingdom. Do not say, yes, it does not decrease anything from His kingdom, because it moved from His kingdom to His kingdom. No, no, it cannot be that this is the intended meaning, because if that were the intended meaning, the speech would be futile. The speech would be futile. But the meaning is, if it were assumed that these great gifts were given as if they were outside the kingdom of Allah, that would not decrease anything from His kingdom. Clear, my brothers, because if the first meaning were the case, there would be no benefit. It is known that you now have ten riyals, you took them out of the right drawer and put them in the left drawer.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : It is known. If someone said it does not decrease, what is this, crazy talk or sensible talk? Does anyone imagine or suppose that this decreases? I ask you, my brothers.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : I have a cabinet with a drawer in it with twenty riyals. I took ten and put them in the second drawer and said, "By Allah, nothing decreased from my kingdom." What is this talk considered?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : This is in reality talk that is not madness, but there is no harm in it. The important thing is that the meaning is, if what you gave them were assumed to have gone out of His kingdom, then it does not decrease Him, Glorified and Exalted is He. So
Rather, both His hands are extended بل يداه مبسوطتان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
Open for spending, night and day. And what is the greatest of what flows from the spending of Allah the Exalted? And the spending of Allah the Exalted is not what we get from the coins. Every blessing we have is from Allah the Exalted. The particles of rain are from the spending of Allah upon us. The particles of rain are from the spending of Allah. The grains of plants
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Are from the spending of Allah. Or not? So this indicates, as the Jews said, may the curses of Allah be upon them,
The hand of Allah is chained يد الله مغلولة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
It indicates that the hand of Allah is closed, as the Jews said.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, by Allah, it indicates that the hands of Allah the Exalted are open with giving and blessings that cannot be counted or enumerated.
But if they say, why did He give to Zayd and not to 'Amr? Because Allah the Exalted has absolute authority and perfect wisdom. And for this reason, He said in response to their doubt:
He spends however He wills ينفق كيف يشاء
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
He spends as He wills. So some people He gives much to, some He gives little to, and some He gives a moderate amount to, according to what
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Wisdom requires. As for this one who was given little, is he deprived of the favor and giving of Allah from another aspect? Or not?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Absolutely not. Allah gave him health, hearing, sight, intellect, and other blessings that cannot be counted. But because of the transgression of the Jews and the aggression of the Jews, and that they, may Allah protect us from that, did not purify Allah from attributes of defect, they said:
The hand of Allah is chained يد الله مغلولة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]

Then he said, okay, the time is up.
In this verse and the one before it, what is affirmed?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : The two hands for Allah, two hands, two.
