The reader: "And the followers of Ahmad and others among them, such as Abu al-Hasan al-Amidi, known as Ibn al-Baghdadi - and I think he also transmitted it from Abu 'Abd Allah ibn Hamid - said: It is not disliked to wash one's hands in the vessel in which one ate, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did so, and Ahmad explicitly stated this, saying: The scholars have always done this, and we do it, and only the common people disapprove of it".

The Shaykh : But we see this after the food is finished; he washes his hands while the food is still there, which spoils the food. But if he is done with the food, there is no harm in washing his hands in the vessel. However, it seems that the common people in the time of Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) disapproved of it, and Imam Ahmad argued that the scholars have always done it. In this is evidence for following the footsteps of the people of knowledge, and that their consensus or near-consensus is considered something to be argued with or referred to. As for our demanding evidence, for example from the Sunnah, for every small or great action, this is anomalous in reality, because if we demanded evidence for every little or much, we would not be able to act on even a quarter of the Sunnah, since most of the Sunnah consists of statements. And if they are statements, and we then demand whether the Messenger did them or not, that is difficult. Yes.
The reader: "And washing the hands after eating is a recommended practice, according to a single narration. And if what is used to wash".

The Shaykh : But after the food and after licking, because licking takes precedence over washing, so one licks first, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commanded, where he commanded that a person should lick them or have them licked. In this is a great benefit, including humility and self-effort, and some mentioned that there are secretions in the fingers that aid digestion, and if a person licks them, he benefits from these secretions. If that is true, it is good upon good; and if it is not true, the Sunnah is sufficient. Yes.
The reader: "And if what is used to wash the hands is brought, it should not be removed until the group has washed their hands, because removing it is a custom of the non-Arabs. Likewise, Shaykh Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jili said: It is recommended to place the water".

The Shaykh : Meaning he said: It is recommended. This is not an introductory phrase from Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him), but it is the quoted statement.
The reader: "It is recommended to place the water for the hands in a single basin, as reported in the report: Do not scatter, lest Allah scatter your unity.
And it was reported that he (peace and blessings be upon him):
He prohibited removing the basin until it is full نهى أن يرفع الطست حتى يطف
meaning until it is filled. And they also said - among them Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-Qadir - in explaining the dislike of shaving the head, according to one of the two narrations"
.

The Shaykh : The important thing is that these customs mentioned in the issue of washing hands are not known among us now, except in the light matter of fruits and the like.
