Benefits of the Hadith: (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held a walimah for some of his wives with a mudd of barley...)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The following is derived from this hadith:
That the walimah is valid with less than a sheep, and that the statement of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf:
Hold a feast, even if it is only with a sheep أولم ولو بشاة
means the maximum amount for a walimah, not the minimum as some scholars have claimed, saying that the minimum for a walimah is a sheep. We say: This is incorrect, because his statement
Hold a feast, even if it is only with a sheep أولم ولو بشاة
means the minimum amount, not the maximum.
So, it is derived that the fact that it is the minimum is not on the basis of obligation, but it is permissible for a person to hold a walimah with something less than that. In this, one should consider the situation of the one holding the walimah. If he is wealthy, we say: hold a walimah, even if it is with a sheep. If he is less than that, we say: hold a walimah with what you are able to afford and can manage.
And among the benefits of this hadith is the prescription of the walimah. But is it on the basis of obligation or recommendation?
We say: This is an action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and a bare action is understood as being recommended. However, the obligation of the walimah is derived from other evidence.
