Benefits of the Hadith: (That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a trace of yellow on 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf, and he said: (What is this?) . . . ) .

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this hadith, there is evidence of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) concern for his Companions and his inquiry into their conditions, and this is derived from the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) question to 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf.
Among the benefits of the hadith is the permissibility of mentioning a matter even if one is not asked about it, in order to inform him, in order to inform your companion of what you have, due to his saying:
for a datestone weight of gold على وزن نواة من ذهب
Sahih Muslim 1427f
, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not ask about the mahr, but rather asked about the cause of this yellow color on him.
Among the benefits of the hadith is that it is permissible for a man to perfume himself with a fragrance whose color is visible, and there is no blame in that.
The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) have mentioned that a man should use a fragrance whose scent is apparent, not one whose color is apparent, and that a woman is the opposite; she should perfume herself with what has a visible color, not what has a visible scent, because a woman may cause fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) if the scent of her perfume is apparent, but a color gives her a type of beauty, and it is known that she will not reveal this beauty except to her husband, her women, and her mahram (a relative one may not marry).
Among the benefits of this hadith is that it has become customary for the newly married to perfume themselves, because perfume is among the good deeds, and among the deeds that encourage a man to love his wife and a woman to love her husband.
Among the benefits of this hadith is the permissibility of estimating gold with something that varies, if the matter is close, due to his saying:
for a datestone weight of gold على وزن نواة من الذهب
Sahih Muslim 1427f
, and it is known that dates vary, but they vary in a close manner.
Among the benefits of this hadith is supplication, or the prescription of supplication for the newly married with blessing, due to his saying:
May Allah bless you بارك الله لك
.
And blessing is: abundant and extensive good, derived from the word for blessing, which is the place where much and large water is stored.
Among the benefits of this hadith is the permissibility of limiting oneself to part of the famous supplication, which is:
May Allah bless you both and join you together in good بارك الله لكما وعليكما وجمع بينكما في خير
, here the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) limited himself to part of the supplication, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Among the benefits of this hadith is that the matter is broad in such affairs, so if one says: May Allah bless you and you and join you together in good, that is good; if one says: May Allah bless you, that is good; if one says: May Allah bless you, that is good; if one says: Mabrūk?
The student: It is not good.

The Shaykh : Do not rush; if one says: Mabrūk on the marriage, O so-and-so, is that it?
The student: It is good.

The Shaykh : So it is good, and although some people say that Mabrūk is from the blessing of the camel, meaning from the prostration of the camel, but this is not correct, because the blessing of the camel is a transitive verb, and a transitive verb cannot be formed into a passive participle except by means of a preposition, and for this reason, a sign of a transitive verb is the validity of forming a passive participle from it, so it came that what can be formed into a passive participle is only if it is transitive, meaning transitive with a preposition, like coming to him.
The important thing is that the word Mabrūk among the common people, whether linguistically correct or not, means: the arrival of blessing in what happened to him.
Among the benefits of this hadith is the prescription of the walimah (the wedding feast), due to his saying:
Hold a feast, even if it is only with a sheep أولم ولو بشاة
.
Some of the scholars held that the walimah is obligatory, and they argued for this by saying that the original ruling of a command is obligation, but it is obligatory according to the ease and difficulty of the person.
Among its benefits is the Shari'ah's (Islamic sacred law) eagerness to make the nikah (the marriage contract) apparent, because the walimah is undoubtedly a cause for the appearance of the nikah and for people to know about it, and for this reason, it was commanded.
Among its benefits is that the minimum walimah for the rich person is a sheep, especially if he is in the middle of a poor community, due to his saying:
even if it is only a sheep ولو بشاة
.
Some scholars held that the "law" (if) here is for multiplication, and that the maximum of the walimah is a sheep, but there is a consideration in this, because this takes it out of its linguistic meaning, but we say: every person is according to his status; the rich person has a ruling and the poor person has a ruling.
Some of our brothers mentioned a point on this and said: that people erased the dots in his saying:
even if it is only a sheep ولو بشاة
: so it became: "Even if it is a shah," meaning the shahi (a type of date), and this was in a time when people were poor and did not hold walimahs, and it was not known about a man's marriage except when people talked about it afterwards, so some of the brothers from the students of knowledge said: that people had scratched the dots of the sheep so it became "Even if it is a shahi," but the situation has reversed now, and the walimahs, may Allah protect us, are being spent on with great and excessive extravagance, until a person holds a walimah that is enough for two hundred people, but only fifty people attend, and this results in corruption of wealth and its waste.
And people now, mostly, praise be to Allah, are in abundance of food, and for this reason, it is incumbent upon us, the students of knowledge, to clarify to people that extravagance in this is a matter that should not be done, and that it may be harmful:
As for the financial harm, it is apparent, and the social harm may be that it causes embarrassment for some people, because some people, or rather I would say most people, do not come to these walimahs except out of courtesy, so if people limited themselves to an easy and small walimah according to their close relatives and their special friends, it would be better, but the problem is that when people follow a custom, they accuse the one who reduces it of being stingy, then the woman shouts, her mother shouts, her relatives shout, why does so-and-so's daughter have this and we have nothing, it must be slaughters and much food and we invite many people, but what is incumbent is that people look at this matter with a serious look, and reduce it according to what the need requires or what the situation requires.
