The Shaykh : Then he said: "And from 'A'ishah: Bulugh al-Maram 8:108":
Sawdah bint Zam'ah was among the senior wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It is said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her after Khadijah, making her his second wife. It is also said that he married 'A'ishah after Khadijah, but he did not consummate the marriage with her until Medina, which would make Sawdah the third wife.
However, she (may Allah be pleased with her) was among the senior women. When she realized that she had grown old in age, she used her firm and great intellect to relinquish her right to the allocation of days, and to make her relinquishment for the woman he loved most among his wives, so she gave it to 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would allocate to 'A'ishah her day and Sawdah's day, meaning: 'A'ishah would have two days, and the rest of the women would have one day. How long is the absence from 'A'ishah?
The student: Seven days.
The Shaykh : Seven days, correct, he is absent from her for seven days.
It is also said that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to divorce Sawdah, so she spoke to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I will remain your wife and give my day to 'A'ishah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted. Whether the matter was as such, or whether it was Sawdah's own initiative (may Allah be pleased with her), the ruling is that it is permissible for a woman to relinquish her right to the allocation of days to a specific woman among the wives.
Sauda (RA) daughter of Zam'ah gave away her day to 'Aishah (RA). So the Prophet (ﷺ) allotted a share to 'Aishah (RA) of her day and Sauda's.
