Benefits of the hadith (that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take a bath with the leftover water of Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) . . . ).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Among the benefits of this hadith are the following: First, it points to the fact that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) had multiple wives. Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when his wives multiplied, only intend pleasure and enjoyment with women and the satisfaction of desire? Or did he have noble purposes beyond that?
The student: The second.

The Shaykh : It was the latter, without a doubt. For this reason, all of his wives were previously married women, and none of them was a virgin except Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). If he had been a lustful man, as the enemies of the Muslims claimed, he would have chosen whichever virgins he wished, because if he had asked his Companions to marry whoever they wanted, they would not have been prevented from doing so. But he (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to have a connection in every Arab tribe, a connection in every tribe.
Among the benefits of this is that these wives, who have relatives, inform their relatives about what the Messenger did in his home regarding matters that only women are privy to. So who informed Ibn Abbas that the Messenger used to take a bath with the leftover water of Maymunah?
The student : Her maternal uncle.

The Shaykh : Maymunah, who was his maternal aunt. So this clarifies the benefit of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) having multiple wives: that they convey more and more knowledge to the Ummah as their number increases.
And among the benefits of this hadith is the permissibility of disclosing what one is usually shy to mention, for the sake of spreading knowledge, because Maymunah disclosed this to whom? To Ibn Abbas, regarding this matter which one might be shy to mention.
And among the benefits of this hadith is that such a matter does not fall under the prohibition of revealing secrets between spouses, because this has no relation to marital intimacy. Rather, it is an explanation of a legal ruling from which the Ummah benefits, namely that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take a bath with the leftover water of Maymunah.
And among the benefits of this hadith is the humility of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), in that he used to take a bath with the leftover water of his wife. If he had been one of the arrogant who consider themselves superior, he would have said to the wife, “Do not touch the water until I have bathed.” But he (peace and blessings be upon him), as we know, is the master of the humble and the best of people to their families, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives. خيركم خيركم لأهله، وأنا خيركم لأهلي
