If wild donkeys become domesticated, are they forbidden?

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : If wild donkeys become domesticated, are they forbidden?

The Shaykh : This man is asking: if wild donkeys become domesticated, are they forbidden? The answer: No, they remain in their original state. Just as domestic donkeys, if they become wild, do not become lawful. Yes, that is correct. But if a beast of livestock becomes wild and we cannot catch it except by shooting, and we shoot it, is it lawful?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : At what part of its body?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is correct. Because a camel ran away during the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and they were unable to catch it, so a man shot it with an arrow and held it back. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, these are wild beasts that run away from you—or a word to that effect—so do with it thus. إنّ لهذه لأوابد الوحش فما ندّ عليكم -أو كلمة نحوها- فاصنعوا به هكذا
, Yes?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : We do not know. We say it became forbidden and thus became impure, and it was made lawful when it was pure.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : We do not know. His statement:
For it is impure. فإنّها رجس
We do not know whether the impurity is something that occurred later or was pre-existing. But if it was pre-existing, there is a problem, because the ruling must follow the cause.
