Explanation of the Book of Purification-08

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he said: "And from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to wash the semen and then go out for prayer in that (very) garment and I could still see the trace of the washing كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يغسل المني ثم يخرج إلى الصلاة في ذلك الثوب وأنا أنظر إلى أثر الغسل
Bulugh al-Maram 27
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And Muslim has:
I used to scrape it (the semen) off the garment of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and then he offered prayer with it. لقد كنت أفركه من ثوب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فركا فيصلّي فيه
Bulugh al-Maram 28
.
And in a wording from him:
Verily! I (‘Aisha) used to scrape it (the semen) off his garment with my nails while it was dry. لقد كنت أحكه يابساً بظفري من ثوبه
Bulugh al-Maram 28
"
.
This hadith clarifies the ruling on semen. Semen is the spurting fluid that comes out of a person with desire. It must be spurting for it to be considered valid semen, not pathological semen, because semen may come out due to illness, but the discussion is about semen that comes out in a state of health. And this does not happen except, what? Except by spurting, by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(5) So let man observe from what he was created. (6) He was created from a fluid, ejected, فلينظر الإنسان ممّ خلق* خلق من ماء دافق
[At-Tariq 86:5-6]
In this hadith, Aisha says "that the Messenger would wash the semen, then go out to pray in that garment, and I would look at the trace of the washing", meaning that he would pray in it, peace and blessings be upon him, while it was still wet and had not dried from the washing.
Yes, mentioning semen may require us to mention what comes out of the penis. Four types come out of the penis: semen, pre-seminal fluid, urine, and a thick fluid passed after urination. Four types, all different, except for the thick fluid passed after urination and urine. We will see, if Allah wills, from the hadith that semen is pure and obligates the full ritual bath. Pre-seminal fluid is between purity and ritual impurity; it is not among the heavy impurities nor among the pure things. Its cause is also desire, but since it does not come out when the desire is intense and strong, but rather comes out upon remembering or seeing a woman or the like, and it comes out without the person feeling it, and he does not know about it except by its wetness, this is an intermediate case. The Lawgiver made it between semen and urine. It obligates washing the penis and the testicles, even if they are not touched by it. It also obligates sprinkling what it touches with a sprinkling that covers it with water, without it dripping from it, and without squeezing or rubbing it.
The ruling on urine and the thick fluid passed after urination is the same. Both are ritually impure, and both are washed thoroughly by pouring water on them until it drips, and by rubbing and squeezing.
She says, may Allah be pleased with her: "He would wash the semen, then go out to pray in that garment, and I would look at the trace of the washing", agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Her saying: "go out to pray in that garment" means the garment in which the semen was and from which he washed it. And her saying: "and I would look", it is possible that the phrase is circumstantial, meaning he goes out while I am looking at him and my gaze follows him. It is also possible that it is a new statement, meaning that he goes out in a manner not conditioned by my looking at him, but rather I look at him when he goes out or before he goes out. And in this case, the ruling does not differ.
And in a narration from Muslim: "I used to rub it from the garment of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a rubbing, and he would pray in it". Rubbing is massaging, either with the fingers or with the palm or the like. And her saying, may Allah be pleased with her: "with a rubbing" is from the category of emphasis, so it is an emphasized verbal noun. The scholars said that the benefit of the emphasized verbal noun is to negate the possibility of metaphorical meaning along with the emphasis. So His saying, the Exalted:
And Allah spoke to Moses with speech وكلّم الله موسى تكليمًا
with speech, this is an emphasized verbal noun, and its benefit is to negate the possibility of metaphorical meaning. Yes, meaning according to the view that metaphorical meaning occurs in the Qur'an, and the correct view is that it does not occur. And her saying: "and he would pray in it" means without washing, but rubbing suffices.
And in a wording: "I used to scratch it dry with my fingernail from his garment.".
And this is another method instead of rubbing: she would scratch it with her fingernail. This is in the case where it has a substance, she would scratch it with her fingernail until its substance is removed so that it is not seen. And something like this may involve some modesty and shyness if the trace of semen is seen on a person's garment. So in this hadith there are benefits that we will postpone because of... the questions. Do you not have any questions?
