Benefits of the Hadith: “The eye is the plug of sleep, and when both eyes sleep…”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Among the benefits of the hadith is that sleep does not invalidate the ablution if the plug is not released, whether one is sitting, prostrating, bowing, or lying down, because the ruling follows its operative cause in its existence and absence.
“And Abu Dawud also has a report from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), traced to the Prophet:
Ablution is necessary for one who sleeps while he is lying down إنما الوضوء على من نام مضطجعا
Sunan Abi Dawud 202Da'if (Al-Albani)
and there is weakness in its chain as well”
:
This means that there is no ablution required for one who sleeps while sitting, standing, or bowing; it is only required for one who sleeps lying down, meaning on his side, back, or stomach. This is because the person sleeping in a reclining position is more likely to have deep sleep in which he passes a state of ritual impurity without being aware of it.
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if the hadith is authentic, mentioned the posture in which the state of ritual impurity is most likely to occur.
And the rule, as we have passed over: “If he sleeps a sleep such that if he were to pass a state of ritual impurity, he would not be aware of it, then he must perform ablution; otherwise, there is no ablution required of him”.
