Sleep invalidates the ablution if it is deep sleep

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I have seen some people sleeping in the Sacred House before, for example, the midday or afternoon prayer, and then the alarm comes to wake people for prayer, so they get up to pray without performing the ablution, and likewise some women do the same. What is the ruling on that? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.

A: Sleep invalidates the ablution if it is deep sleep that removes consciousness; for the noble Companion Safwan ibn 'Uasal al-Muradi (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
When we were traveling, Allah's Messenger would order us not to remove our Khuff for three days and nights, except for Janabah, but not for defecating, urinating, and sleep.كان رسول الله ﷺ يأمرنا إذا كنا مسافرين ألا ننزع خفافنا ثلاثة أيام ولياليهن إلا من جنابة ولكن من غائط وبول ونوم
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 96Hasan (Darussalam)
It was narrated by al-Nasa'i, and al-Tirmidhi with this wording, and Ibn Khuzaymah graded it as authentic.
And for what Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The eye (when awake) is the string of the anus (to stop air escaping), and if the two eyes sleep the string is untiedالعين وكاء السه؛ فإذا نامت العينان استطلق الوكاء
Bulugh al-Maram 80
It was narrated by Ahmad and al-Tabarani, and there is weakness in its chain, but it has corroborating narrations that support it, such as the hadith of Safwan mentioned above, and thus it becomes a good hadith.
And thus it is known that if a man or a woman sleeps in the Sacred Mosque or elsewhere, his or her purity is invalidated, and the ablution is obligatory upon him or her. If he or she prays without the ablution, the prayer is not valid. The legislated ablution is: washing the face with rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose, washing the hands with the elbows, wiping the head with the ears, and washing the feet with the ankles. There is no need for cleaning oneself from sleep or the like, such as passing wind, touching the private parts, or eating camel meat.
Cleaning oneself with water or stones is only obligatory from urine or feces specifically, and what is in their meaning, before the ablution.
As for drowsiness, it does not invalidate the ablution; because consciousness does not leave with it. And thus the narrations in this chapter are reconciled. And success is from Allah.
