The Shaykh : In this hadith, the time between the adhan and the iqamah is a time for the answering of supplication, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 521Sahih (Al-Albani) The apparent meaning of the hadith is that it is general, and that there is no difference between men and women. Its apparent meaning is also that there is no difference between one who is waiting for the prayer and one who is not waiting for the prayer. Its apparent meaning is also that there is no difference between one who has performed wudu' and one who has not, meaning it is general. Sunan Abi Dawud 521Sahih (Al-Albani) And among the benefits of this hadith is the virtue of supplication. There is no doubt that supplication is worship, as He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Ghafir 40:60] So Allah made supplication a form of worship. He said: Then He said: [Ghafir 40:60] And there is no doubt that it is worship, because the one who supplicates appears before Allah in the guise of one who is needy and dependent, feeling that Allah the Exalted is the One in whose hand are all affairs, the One who gives and the One who withholds. And among the benefits of this hadith is what we mentioned at the beginning of the discussion: the One who responds and accepts is whom? It is Allah Mighty and Majestic. Branching from this principle is a great benefit, which is: if a person supplicates against another, should the other fear his supplication? If a person supplicates against another, should the person against whom the supplication is made fear it? The answer is: he does not fear it unless he is an oppressor. Because if a person supplicates against one who is not wronged, meaning against one who is not an oppressor, then the One who answers him is Allah Mighty and Majestic. And if He were to answer his supplication, it would mean that Allah the Exalted is aiding the oppressors, and He is far above that. Rather, Allah Mighty and Majestic said: [Al-An'am 6:21] And on this basis, do not fear the supplication of one who supplicates against you without right, because the One who answers the supplication is whom? It is Allah Mighty and Majestic, and He, Glorified and Exalted is He, does not ever support the oppressor. But if you are an oppressor, then beware, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), when he sent him to Yemen and ordered him to take zakah from their wealth, and he said: Sahih Muslim 19a And supplication has known etiquettes in the books written on that. If someone were to say: a person may supplicate between the adhan and the iqamah, but we do not see it being answered, so what is our position regarding this hadith? The answer is: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informs us that this time is a cause for the answering of supplication. And a cause may not result in the effect due to the presence of a preventer. Pay attention: if such texts come that contain reports, and then the report does not materialize based on your assumption, know that it will not fail except due to the presence of a preventer, a preventer that prevents the answering of the supplication. And listen to the saying of the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) when he mentioned: Sahih Muslim 1015 Look at this hadith: the causes for the answering are present, and they are: traveling, being disheveled and dusty, raising his hands to the sky and supplicating: O Lord, O Lord, O Lord. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) considered the possibility of his supplication not being answered because he eats what is haram, so this is a preventer from the answering of the supplication despite the presence of its conditions. Also, I remind you that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1092Sahih (Darussalam) Even though many people say this, but Shaytan takes control of their children, and that is due to the presence of a preventer that prevents the realization of what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) informed about, or due to the presence of a stronger cause, a stronger cause in which there was negligence on the part of the guardian. For example, if this child grows up and becomes a youth and associates with people who are no good, and his father did not forbid him from them and did not monitor him, then the father has neglected what Allah obligated upon him of caring for the child, and the child has acquired a strong cause, which is the companionship of these wicked people. So observe these matters: Allah Mighty and Majestic, in His Shari'ah and His decree, links things to one another. And the effect may not materialize, and the effect may exist without the known cause, because the whole matter is in the hand of Allah Mighty and Majestic. But be glad, O you who call to Allah, that no person supplicates to Allah except that he certainly obtains a reward. How so? No one supplicates to Allah except that he obtains a reward. How so? Because supplication is worship; supplication is worship, one of the best of worships. Then either Allah answers him, or He stores up for Him what is better than what he supplicated for, or He averts from him an evil whose causes had been established from this supplicant, which is greater than what he supplicated for. So the supplicant to Allah the Exalted will not be deprived of good; he is in a good state in all cases. Increase in supplication and have good opinion of Allah Mighty and Majestic. And for this reason, it came in the hadith: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3479Da’if (Darussalam) No one supplicates to Allah except that he obtains a reward.
